\nBilly Thompson \u201cGypsy Style\u201d with Karen Street<\/strong>
\nWe offer this review, not as experts in the Jazz field but as two ordinary people who enjoy a wide variety of different music styles and, when we hear it, know what we like.<\/strong>
\nWe came to Jazz Club for an evening of entertainment and Billy and his \u201cGypsy Style\u201d Band certainly served us \u2018shed loads\u2019 of it. Fun, banter, showmanship and incredible musicianship to send us both home very, very happy. <\/strong>
\nBilly, in many ways, is to Gypsy Jazz what Nigel Kennedy is to classical music. Both are incredible exponents of their \u2018art\u2019 and both push the \u2018boundaries\u2019 of their respective genres, sometimes to the extremes. This evening was no exception with a very broad programme encompassing the full range of the Band\u2019s musical spectrum. From a gentle ballad \u201cBei Dir War Es Immer So Schon\u201d to fast and furious numbers like Rosenberg\u2019s \u201cGypsymania\u201d that conjured images of wild dancing around the flickering flames of the warming fire and left the audience breathless.<\/strong>
\nThe whole band came fully equipped, each with two sets of \u2018flying fingers and thumbs\u2019 which often became a blur as they flew expertly and precisely over the strings and keys of their respective instruments (or did they each have a third hand skilfully concealed by the blur?).<\/strong>
\n \u2019Full-on\u2019 musicianship was the keynote of the performance; but delivered in a slick, polished and highly accomplished and relaxed manner. Each musician complementing perfectly the others and contributing equally to the overall balance of the carefully scored arrangement for each number (experts always make it look so easy!).<\/strong>
\nKaren Street on Accordion; Andy Mackenzie on Guitar; Eryl Jones on Guitar, Mandolin and vocals; Greg Robley on Bass and of course Billy Thompson; we salute you all and your many amazing musical talents. <\/strong>

We booked Billy and his band to perform their Gypsy Style Jazz for our wedding evening reception. We couldn’t have been happier with their performance. The intoxicating energy if their performance appealed to all our guests. Billy was also accommodating and versatile enough to perform a special request for us as our first dance. We originally intended this to be a duet with Billy and our Pianist, however, Billy and his band were able to arrange the entire piece to include their 5 members. The results were spectacular, and a testament to the outstanding skill these guys possess.
